| Veronica - JUX 38V, My Striker Mk.II I picked up my kit in December 1997 and four months and nine days later, the car was MOT'd and roadworthy. It was then powered by a 1300 X-flow Ford, 5-speed type 9 gearbox and 4.11 dif. The engine was livened up with a big valve, ported and polished head with steel valve train. In addition, a Kent 234 road/rally cam, lightened flywheel, 10.5:1 compression ratio, fully balanced bottom end and twin 40 DCOE carbs helped finish the theme. With a dry weight of 520kg (1144lbs for those who still speak English instead of Euro) it was pretty rapid. Fun, but alas, not enough power. After two years of fun filled adventure, 'Veronica' as she became known is now off the road for an adrenaline transplant. The 4.11 dif is staying, but the rest will go. Replacing the engine is a Toyota 4AGE 1600cc twin cam with RAW Engineering cams, twin 45 DHLA carbs and Omex 3D mappable ignition. Converting the 160 odd hp to thrust is be a BGH Geartech Rocket Five 5-speed. This effectively results in a close ratio 4-speed plus an overdrive. If this doesn't liven it up enough, then I have the beginnings of a N/A 2.0L Cosworth engine sitting in the garage. With a pair of L14 cams, 220+ hp would be on the cards. Half a ton car + 220hp = acceleration just slightly slower than a Polaris missile.
